core charge at junk yard

No Parts Left Behind: Life of a Core

What is a CORE charge and why do some parts have them?

CORE stands for Cash on Receipt of Exchange. To ensure that as many parts get recycled as possible, a CORE charge is added to the purchase price of some parts. The CORE charge is refunded if your original part is returned to the salvage yard within 30 days of purchase. Think of a core charge just as you would a deposit.

Two main reasons a CORE is charged

  1. Rebuildable and reusable parts

Many parts, like a starter or alternator, can be disassembled and rebuilt with internal parts and used again. There are hundreds of parts on a vehicle that can be rebuilt and reused.

  1. Recyclable materials

Almost every single part on a vehicle can be recycled. The goal at GO Pull-It is to recycle 100 percent of the vehicle. We want to keep your old parts out of the landfill, and by charging a CORE, we are encouraging people to bring back their old parts, which we then recycle. The more parts that are recycled or rebuilt reduces the consumption of new materials and the energy to mine and process these new parts. Recycling your old parts reduces greenhouse gas emissions and the amount of waste in landfills. Recycling old parts is a win-win for you and the environment.

Value for your vehicle

Part of the reason GO Pull-It can pay more for the junk vehicles we buy is because of the process we use to maximize the vehicle’s value. Not only do we sell the parts on the car, we also recycle the entire shell of the car. That means we can offer the best price for your vehicle. All parts of the car have some value, whether they are going to be reused/rebuilt or just sent to the steel mill to be shredded and melted down to make new products.

Ultimately, CORE means cash for your broken part. Don’t put that old part in the trash. Instead, turn it in and let it live on.
